Please, do not blame the coach, players or the captain. It is the system that is producing these players have to be blamed. If we need to sack coach, captain and/or few players, why not the cricket administrators and selectors? Is your domestic cricket designed to produce tough players? Was there any tough situations players handle in Indian domestic system? Are the domestic players have the safety of having cricket as a career in spite of BCCI having so much money? In the Ranji Trophy 2007 season, more than 60% matches have ended in tame draw with First innings scores deciding the outcome. Big scores by batsmen on Indian Flat pitches, hitting the balls to boundaries, hog the limelight. But never some one who accumulates runs with the help of singles and twos. When we change pitches and domestic matches, we bound to get nurtured players, until then we will be relying on the born talent who will choke more than once in these kind of situations.
We have already suffered in Hockey. And the situation is so pathetic that we are not even top four in Asia in Hockey. And if this continues in cricket, it is only a matter of time.

No Kidding, At this rate by which we are harboring the oldies (Kumble, Sachin , Ganguly and yes even Dravid), I'm just waiting to hear the recall of Azharuddin, Jadeja and Srinath to complete the squad.
They should sack the entire team and build a fresh team around some rookie player... like dhoni. who himself is insecure.
We should drop harbhajan, sehwag, agarkar and even Zaheer.
These ppl are a bad precedent to base our future.
Except Yuvraj (who should be given the benefit of doubt) every player who had played in 2003 would be sacked.
That way you can infuse some new players andsense of accountability in to the system.
Most importantly, our current way of selection is without merit and is not working.
They should start churning out point system and reward performance of players in Ranji.
More over the Ranji format would have to be looked at and possibly changed for the better.
I'm dead certain, all these wont happend... and hence we will do the usual...A.K.A we are screwed.
Dheepak.

As long as we have regional representation even in Selection Team what has happened is bound to happen. Since two years back when the Board introduced the contract system things have started deteriorating. Players strive to keep their place in the national squad with an eye on the potential ad income. The spirit of the game and appreciation and fond following of millions really do not matter anything to the cricketers. The Board in its eagerness to swell its coffers leaves no opportunity for the players to go and play in English League which is a good shaping ground. The last decade players were doing this regularly. High cost commercial coacing institutes have taken the game away from potential budding youngsters from the common masses? Then what else do we expect? THe players were so overwhelmed with the thoughts of their pockets swelling with earnings that they took the game against Bangladesh casually. Srilanka did not do it even though it was their third game. We might probably start thinking of introducing parameters in terms of moving averages in the last 10 or so international matches in future selections so that players will have a stke in continuous performance other than the life time averages and domestic tournament scores
